Asset Escrow & Clothing
Quick answer
Asset Escrow encrypts Lua, YFT, YDD and YDR. For a clothing pack that means the models are protected and the textures and metadata are not — YTD, YMT and .meta ship readable.
Difficulty: Intermediate · Affects: LEGACY fully · ENHANCED: not implemented yet

What is and is not protected
| Type | Escrowed |
|---|---|
| Lua | Yes |
| YFT | Yes |
| YDD — clothing models | Yes |
| YDR | Yes |
| YTD — textures | No |
| YMT — collections | No |
.meta | No |
This is why a repacking tool can rename an escrowed pack's stream files without decrypting anything: the collection metadata it rewrites was never encrypted.
Requirements
| Requirement | Value |
|---|---|
| Minimum FXServer artifact | 4960+ |
Required in fxmanifest.lua to create an asset | lua54 'yes' |
| Maximum asset size | 1 GB |
| NUI in escrowed assets | Not supported |
WARNING
The lua54 'yes' requirement is about creating an escrowed asset, and it still stands in the Cfx developer FAQ. That is separate from the general Lua version guidance, where 5.4 is now the default runtime.
escrow_ignore
Files listed in escrow_ignore stay readable and unprocessed:
escrow_ignore {
'config.lua', -- single file
'stream/*.ytd', -- all YTDs in that folder
'stream/**/*.ytd' -- and in any subfolder
}For clothing this is mostly about configuration, since textures and collections are not encrypted in the first place.
Escrow-related crashes on some file types
Some server owners have reported crashes with escrowed resources that disappear when certain streamed file types are added to escrow_ignore, including types that are not supposed to be encrypted at all. This is NOT CONFIRMED as a general behaviour and has no reliable reproduction. Do not restructure a working pack around it, but it is worth knowing if you hit an otherwise inexplicable crash with an escrowed resource.
Entitlement
You lack the required entitlementThe server's license key owner is not the account entitled to the asset. It is not a cache problem, a YMT problem or a pool problem.
Check that the license key in use was generated by the account that purchased the pack, that the asset appears in that account's Portal, and that the server was restarted after installing. Purchased assets can be transferred once, within a limited window, from the Portal — transfer of assets you created is not supported.
Enhanced
Asset Escrow is not implemented for FiveM on GTA V Enhanced. Escrow-protected clothing cannot be converted with Alchemist and cannot run there. See Legacy vs Enhanced.
